Business Architecture & Multi-Tenant Model

Platform AdminSuper AdminAdmin

Chapter 2 — Platform hierarchy, NexusOne ID, campus & academic year management

Chapter 2 defines the foundational architecture of NexusOne. A single platform instance serves multiple schools (tenants) with strict logical data isolation. Every entity — from Platform down to Student — lives in a 7-level hierarchy. The NexusOne ID gives every user a permanent, globally unique identity that follows them across school transfers and role changes.

Platform Hierarchy

NexusOne Platform
↓Super Admin (School Owner)
↓School
↓Campus
↓Academic Year
↓Class (Grade)
↓Section (Division)
↓Student

NexusOne ID (Chapter 2.15)

Format: NX-000000001

Globally unique, never reused, never editable. Auto-assigned on user creation. Valid for students, parents, teachers, staff, and alumni.

  • Follows the person across school transfers and role changes
  • Sequential counter stored in MongoDB — thread-safe via atomic increment
  • Alumni retain their NexusOne ID permanently after graduation

User Roles (Chapter 2.17)

All supported roles in the platform:

Platform AdminSuper AdminAdminPrincipalTeacherStudentParentAccountantFacilities AdminLibrarianDriverAlumni

Alumni role: former students who retain their NexusOne ID and limited platform access post-graduation.

School Board Types (Chapter 2.8)

Schools specify their academic board during registration:

CBSEICSEState BoardIBIGCSEOther

Audit Trail (Chapter 2.27)

Every admin action is logged with full context for compliance:

  • actor — who performed the action
  • action — what was done (campus.create, year.activate, etc.)
  • oldValue / newValue — state before and after the change
  • ip — IP address of the request
  • createdAt — timestamp (indexed for fast range queries)

Campus Management (New in Chapter 2)

Admins can manage multiple physical locations for a single school. One campus can be designated as the Main campus.

Frontend

Admin Dashboard → Campus Management (/dashboard/admin/campus)

Mobile

Admin App → Campuses screen with create/edit/deactivate flow

GET/api/campusesList campuses for current school
POST/api/campusesCreate campus (Admin+)
PUT/api/campuses/:idUpdate campus
DELETE/api/campuses/:idDeactivate campus

Academic Year Management (New in Chapter 2)

Each school manages its own academic years with configurable terms (e.g. Term 1, Term 2). Only one year can be active at a time.

Planning→Active→Closed→Archived
GET/api/academic-yearsList all academic years
GET/api/academic-years/activeGet current active year
POST/api/academic-yearsCreate academic year
PUT/api/academic-years/:id/activateSet as active year (closes current)

Multi-Tenant Data Isolation

Isolation Rule

Every MongoDB document carries a school (ObjectId) field. All queries are automatically scoped via getSchoolFilter(req) middleware. School A can never access School B data.

  • Subscription check middleware enforces active trial or paid plan
  • School verification status checked on every protected request
  • Platform Admin is the only role with cross-tenant visibility

Subscription Model

Monthly

Short-cycle billing

Quarterly

3-month billing

Yearly

Annual billing (default ₹7,999)

  • 90-day free trial on activation
  • Payment via Dodo Payments (webhook-driven)
  • Mobile: Admin can view subscription status at any time
